Taking the day off...

It is my off day. Days I choose to do absolutely nothing. Unplugging from an overwhelmingly media frenzied society. Along with that, in my home, I bellow a confident declaration of no mom work today. On my do nothing days, I find time to fit in just me. I focus on me, reflecting on where I am at and where I am going. This includes evaluating the role of my family and its emotional, spiritual and physical functionality.

As human beings, we are pulled in so many different directions. Breaking our better selves into pieces, so that we may feed a society that may choose to chew us and simply spit us out. We need these days to reflect and examine the path we are on, the people we decide to carry along with us or are walking with us. Reflect on whether they serve us in improving ourselves or draw us away from our enlightened self. We need to take the time to understand how all experiences shape us, whether it is good and probably more so, the bad. It is those storms that shape us profoundly, how we perceive it, is what makes the difference. Swap those negative lenses during your off day and fit on positive ones and on these days, start counting your blessings and choose to focus on the lessons learnt.

On my ‘off’ days, I choose to re-centre, take a breath and appreciate the little things. Far too often we focus on what is hurting us, and more frequently than we should, we focus on what we don’t possess yet as opposed to what we have become and have accomplished thus far. The strength we have built within ourselves with everything that was thrown at us and acknowledging that the road ahead might throw some more at us, but we smile because we know we got this because we live in the simple truth that God will not give us a burden to bear that we cannot endure.

Choose your off day, take a breath, reflect and evaluate where you were, the person you have grown into and the person you have yet to become.

Living purposefully,…

Love, Z
