Whether we realize it or not, love is that thing what we need more than anything. When we love 100%, we feel alive, and it is a powerful force. For love, many people are willing to do extraordinary things for others, whether it is love that a parent has for a child or love of romantic relationship. However, if we don’t feel we can get love, we settle for connection – even if these connections do not serve us. There are many ways to get connection, whether it is through friendships, a pet or even connecting to nature. Less constructive connections are the ones in which we sacrifice our authenticity to conform to a group or people pleasing.
You can meet this need by establishing lifelong friendships spending more time with likeminded people, as well as improving your relationship skills.
Ask yourself:
How are you currently meeting this need?
In what way do you feel like your need is not being met?
What do believe is necessary for your need to be met?
How can you meet this need in a way that will help you truly be fulfilled?
Her are some ways that you can start your journey on understanding your value and sending love to yourself:
1. Find a quiet space, close your eyes, and focus on your breathing. Focus on the movement of your lungs and how it fills with air going in and out. Next focus on your heart, by placing your hand over it, and feeling the rhythmic pulse, that pumps blood throughout your body, feeding it and nourishing it. Then move on to your limbs and so forth. With each part of your body, focus on what it does for you and the power it gives you. This power of movement will help you face your day confidently
2. Call up a friend or family that you haven’t contacted in a while and let them know that you were thinking about them and the positive role they have played in your life.
3. Before going to bed at night: take 30 minutes of uninterrupted “Me Time”
4. At least once per day: Move your body in a way that is fun
5. Stay hydrated. Water is cleansing but before drinking, say a prayer of love and drink the positive vibrations.
Above all else, pay attention to your connection to God. Use your spare time to connect to the love He shows through His blessings. You can do this through mindful walks, finding stillness in nature, paying attention to the food on your plate, the sounds of laughter, singing and prayer.
